Chairperson's Message
2007 was a major milestone for us as we commemorated fifteen years of service; of journeying with
children impacted with cancer and their families. And as we remember their bravery amidst their
struggles; their laughter amidst their pain, we commemorate the lives that we have touched and
which has touched us in return.
As I reflect on the 15 years of my own journey with the organisation, the one common thread that
surface time and again is the inspiration I drew from the people who sincerely wanted to make a
difference to the lives of our little friends and their families. Inspiration from our Patron,
Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister-of-State, Ministry for Law and Home Affairs, for
his unwavering support amidst his busy schedule.
Inspiration from our Advisors, for their continual pursuit to improve the quality of life for our
children. Inspiration from our past and present Management Committee Members, Staff and Volunteers
for their passion and drive in steering the course. We especially want to acknowledge Hiang Khoon
(one of the founding members of CCF), whose vision we continue to live by and the late Dee Fong,
whose patience, integrity and love for humankind will always be remembered.
2007 was also a year where we turned challenges into opportunities. Opportunities to learn and grow,
opportunities to better ourselves through the following initiatives:
| 1) |
In helping to provide a better and more robust environment for the children at KK Women's and
Children's Hospital, the opportunity arose for us to work with and contribute to their new Children's
Cancer Centre. |
| 2) |
In wanting to ensure better medical coverage for our children, the opportunity arose for us to
contribute to the Singapore Cord Blood Bank (SCBB), aiding them to build their inventory for transplant
use. SCBB banked above 3,000 cord blood units as at the end of Dec 2007. |
| 3) |
In addition to forming the above medical alliances, we have also reached out to medical and allied
health personnel both locally and in neighbouring countries to offer training opportunities for them
to learn from and serve the Singapore community. |
| 4) |
In addressing our staff concerns, we, with the help of the Ministry of Manpower WoW! Funding,
implemented work-life initiatives and flexi-work benefits, which were very positively received by our
staff, refreshing their work life and boasting their morale. |
| 5) |
In addressing our poor IT infrastructure, we, with the help of the National Council of Social
Services' VCF ICT funding, upgraded our systems, with the intent of building a knowledge-sharing organisation. |
As we continue to improve the quality of lives of children with cancer and their families, we are heartened by the
positive response from corporate organisations, educational institutions, foundations and individuals who have given
so generously in cash and kind, time, effort and expertise. We commit in striving to maintain a proactive stance in
elevating governance of the Foundation to ensure accountability.
