Shaving

1. How do I help children with cancer by shaving?

Children with cancer going through chemotherapy lose their hair due to the side effect of the treatment. Hence, it symbolises their fight against cancer. With every head shaven, we hope to foster greater understanding and awareness, as well as to celebrate the courage of these children. At the same time, funds raised from the events are channelled to improve the quality of life our children and their families.

2. Is there any age limit for shaving?

There is no age limit.  However if you are under the age of 18, we will require you to obtain parental consent for shaving and collection of donation with the pledge card.

3. Are there any female volunteer shavees?

Definitely!  In fact, since the inception of the event, 295 ladies have sacrificed their locks, 12 in 2004, 22 in 2005, 130 in 2006 and 131 in 2007.

4. Can I choose the preferred shaving time?

We will allocate the time slots to you, but more details on this will come your way.

5. If I can get a group of friends and family to shave, do we register individually?

Yes, if you would like to be shaved together, please indicate so during the briefing session.

6. Can we shave without registering first?

Yes, but you will then be participating as a walk in on the event day and there are only 150 places available on a first come first served basis.

7. What does CCF do with the hair that has been collected? ?

Whilst CCF do not keep any of the shaved hair for other purposes, we are aware that some participants with long hair may wish to contribute their pony tails to make wigs for cancer patients. As such, we will provide zip lock bags for these participants to keep their snipped off pony tails, and they can send it direct to Locks of Love if their hair meets the required criteria for the wig making.

8. Can we be considered as having taken part in the initiative if we shave before or after the event?

We still would like to encourage you to participate in this event whether as a registered participant, walk in participant or at a satellite event. However, should you choose to shave on your own initiative in conjunction with this symbolic event, you are encouraged to spread the awareness of childhood cancer and support our our cause.

9. Can I request for a shorter haircut instead of an entirely shaved head?

No. Hair for Hope is about going bald in solidarity of children with cancer who typically lose all of their hair during chemotherapy.

10. Can I volunteer in other ways besides shaving my head?

Yes!  Please do contact CCF at 68356464 or at www.ccf.org.sg.

11. Do you have any brochures or hand-outs I could distribute to help publicize the event?

Yes, brochures may be obtained from CCF main office or alternatively, during our briefing session.
