Support Services
Financial Assistance
The Financial Assistance Scheme provides financial aid to needy families of
children with cancer. Examples of such assistance schemes include meals and
transport allowance, childhood cancer transplant fund and the special
schooling assistance.
Bereavement Programme
Our Bereavement Programme aims to facilitate the grieving process
and provides a safe environment for families to gather support from
each other and from the professional staff at Children's Cancer
Foundation. It includes support groups for parents as well as A
Day of Remembrance when families commemorate their children who
have passed on from cancer.
Educational Talks/Workshops
Additionally, we also organise in-house and public
educational and informational talks and workshops to provide information
on the medical as well as the psychosocial aspects of childhood cancer.
Wishlink
Our Wishlink Programme aims to fulfil the
favourite wishes of children with cancer who have poor prognosis.
Supervised Play
Our planned activities help to provide a form of distraction for children
who are waiting for their outpatient appointments and treatment.
Tuition & Befriending Programme
The Tuition & Befriending Programme aims to
meet our client's educational needs and supporting their emotional and
social well-being. Trained volunteers assist the child with cancer and/or
their siblings.
Childhood Cancer Transplant Programme
Our Childhood Cancer Transplant Programme aids children who are undergoing
Bone Marrow Transplants (BMT) by relieving the financial, mental and emotional
stress faced by the children and their families.
Back-to School Programme
With the aim of re-integrating children with cancer into mainstream schools,
we created a programme that focuses on educating
schools on childhood cancer. This is achieved by helping the teaching staff
and students at schools understand the needs of children with cancer, and
dispelling the myths, misconceptions and fears surrounding childhood cancer
as perceived by them.
The other aspect of this programme involves our social workers working
directly with children with cancer to ease their anxieties and stress faced
in returning to school after a period of absence.
Social & Recreational Programmes
Our objectives for this programme are threefold: to strengthen the emotive
skills of children with cancer and develop their social interaction skills;
to enhance the emotional bond between the children and their families, and
to bridge and strengthen ties amongst families coping with childhood cancer.
To that end, Children's Cancer Foundation's members are invited to a range
of activities planned for them throughout the year such as our Annual Overseas
Trip, our Year-End Celebration and our Children's Day celebration.
