Volunteers' Testimonials

"It has been about 5 years since I volunteered to be a Play Personnel for the children of ward 76 at KKH. As a parent of a former ward 76 resident, I found it greatly beneficial for the help that came from people coming and spending time with my son. So once my son had gone back to a normal routine, I wanted to give my time for the other children in ward 76. I simply enjoyed being with them, playing with them and being a friend with them. There were many wonderful moments experienced just seeing the children smiling, laughing and chatting away. I hope to bring small blessings by spending a little with them and making them feel they are ok.

Another of my focus of being a Play Personnel is for the parents. As they have to care for their sick child for a long term, they experience many challenges too. I wish to share my experience as a parent, encourage them lend them a listening ear when they share their stories, so that they can also persevere to love and care for their child while they go through the battle journey.

We sometimes hear sad news of the children whom we had played with and it does create emotionally difficult moments for me. But this reminds me to cherish every moment of our lives

I am thankful for the opportunity to serve with CCF."

- Koko, A CCF-KKH Play Personnel

"My experience has greatly enhanced my passion and compassion towards cancer-afflicted children who have been deprived of a healthy childhood. By spending some time, coupled with sincere care and love, I am richly rewarded by the child's joy and laughter during the times we spent together. I am also a better person for it - having learnt to be more tolerant and discerning.

In my interactions with the child and family, I admire and hope to emulate their courage and resilience despite the difficulties and adversities encountered by them.

It is extremely rewarding and satisfying when I know my attempts to bring whatever little joy to others, especially cancer-afflicted children are successful."

- Annie Boey, A CCF-KKH befriender

"For a child who was diagnosed with cancer to be able to enjoy laughter and joy in his/her life once again, just like an ordinary person, isn't an easy task. CCF helped me build up my confidence and brought joy to my life. Through the activities that CCF has organised like Camp Sunshine, Youth Retreats and Annual Overseas Trips, I've become a sociable person, confident despite having had cancer. Thank you, CCF!"
