Children’sCamp
Welcome to ‘Monster Mayhem’! This was the theme for CCF’s
annual Children’sCamporganised in collaborationwith students
from theSchool of theArts (SOTA). Held from 2 – 4 June 2016
atSOTA’scampusandHangout@MtEmily, theobjectiveof the
art-based camp was to help our young beneficiaries improve
on their communication and self-expression through visual art,
music, dance andmovement.
At the start of the camp, the childrenquickly formed intogroups
and designed identities for their team! The activity helped
them warm up to each other quickly. This was followed by an
afternoon of art workshops conducted by SOTA students to
help the participants prepare for their performance on the last
day of camp. The children got to learn and experience theatre,
dance, visual art and music lessons. They explored different
theatrical tricks, dancemoves, experimentedwith brushstrokes
andpaint aswell as learnt about body percussion. It was a truly
enriching experience!
Other activities at the camp included station games which
saw the children dig deep to discover their inner ‘monsters’ or
feelingswhich theymight experience. Theobjectivewas tohelp
the children recognise the different feelings that he/she might
experience and how they could be managed and expressed.
The participants also tried their hands at making their very
own stress balls which were exhibited and showcased to their
caregivers on the final day of the camp.
The camp ended on a high note with a ‘Monster Party’ and
splendid performances put up by the children after hours of
hard work! You could tell that the caregivers were beaming
with pride as they watched their child move and groove to the
music. When it was time to say their goodbyes, the children
huggedeachother andpromised toseeeachother soon. Itwas
definitely an endearing sight!
