At the event, caregivers had the opportunity to engage
in a lively discussion with a panel of experts from the
National University Hospital (Dr Miriam Santiago Kimpo and
DrChetanAnilDhamne)and fromKKWomen’sandChildren’s
Hospital (Dr Soh Shui Yen, Dr Amos Loh Hong Pheng and
Ms Grace Quek). Many participants, including the experts,
found thepanel discussion veryuseful andmeaningful.
CCF would like to thank all speakers and panellists for
taking time to share their expertise and knowledge at the
LearningExchange.
Jointly organised by CCF and VIVA Foundation for
Children with Cancer on 5 March 2016, the CCF-VIVA
Family Learning Exchange was held in conjunction with
the 10th St. Jude- VIVA Forum 2016. As a longstanding
learning partner of St. Jude-VIVAForum since 2006, CCF
supports the continuous training and education of medical
professionals at the forum.
Held at the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, 37 participants
attended the CCF-VIVA Family Learning Exchange and
gained important insights on the management of patients
with solid tumours through a sharing by Dr Carlos
Rodriguez-Galindo, Director of International Outreach
Programme and Executive Vice-President of St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital. Participants also learnt
about the challenges, common side-effects and coping
methodologies relating to radiotherapy for children from
Dr Francis Chin, Senior consultant of the Division of
Radiation Oncology at the National Cancer Centre
Singapore. Ms Jasly Koo, Dietitian of the Department of
Nutrition and Dietetics at the KKWomen’s and Children’s
Hospital, spoke on nutritional support during and after
cancer treatment.
Beyond the provision of direct client services to children with
cancer and their families, CCF also forged strategic alliances
with like-minded partners in improving medical care and
well-being for children affected by childhood cancer.
In a key collaboration with National University Hospital and
VIVA Foundation, CCF pledged $4 million to set up the
VIVA-NUSCentre for Translational Research inAcuteLeukaemia
(VIVA-NUS CenTRAL) for leukaemia diagnosis and translational
research. The establishment of VIVA-NUS CenTRAL aims to
improve the cure rate and treatment outcomes of children with
leukaemia throughmedical advancements.
VIVA-NUS CenTRAL, located at the Centre for Translational
Medicine Building in National University of Singapore (NUS),
was officially opened on 4March 2016.
“The opening of VIVA-NUS CenTRAL is an important
milestone in the collaborative research efforts on childhood
cancer. Through CCF’s partnership with NUH and VIVA, the
establishment of VIVA-NUSCenTRAL testifies to the ongoing
commitment of like-minded organisations in improving
the treatment of childhood cancer,” said Ho Cheng Huat,
CCFChairperson.
